Uttarakhand formed on 9th November 2000 known as the 27th State of India. Earlier Uttarakhand was part of Northern Uttar Pradesh, located at the foothills of Himalayan mountain ranges. Nanda Devi, highest mountain having an altitude of 25,643 feet in Uttarakhand. Out of a total area of 53483 km, Out of which 65% of terrain is covered by forest and 86% is by mountainous.

Uttarakhand Districts and Regions

Ancient Hindu scriptures are the united by region of Kedarkhand (known as Garhwal region) and Manaskhand (known as Kumaon region), has been called as Uttarakhand or Devbhumi. The land of state is parted naturally by Nanda Devi Mountains, in two regions, Kumaon and Garhwal. Dehradun, the capital and the largest city . Nainital as judicial capital where the high court of Uttarakhand is located.
There are 13 districts in Uttarakhand which are grouped into Garhwal and Kumaon division.
