Uttarakhand formed on 9th November 2000 known as the 27th State of India. Earlier Uttarakhand was part of Northern Uttar Pradesh, located at the foothills of Himalayan mountain ranges. Uttarakhand mostly a hilly state, it also connect with the international boundaries with China(Occupied Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east.

Geography of Uttarakhand

Demographical History

Uttarakhand have numerous beautiful mountain peaks. Such like- Chowkhamba, Bhagirathi, Pindari, Nanda Devi, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and many more.

Nanda Devi, highest mountain having an altitude of 25,643 feet in Uttarakhand. Out of a total area of 53483 km, Out of which  65% of  terrain is covered by forest and 86% is by mountainous.

Paradise of natural beauty ornamented with wild flowers “The Valley of Flowers”, designated as a world heritage site  by UNESCO,  known for the all rare and unique spices of flora ,soothing to eyes and  healing to soul   is located near Josimath in Garhwali.

Uttarakhand Districts and Regions

Ancient Hindu scriptures are the united by region of Kedarkhand (known as Garhwal region) and Manaskhand (known as Kumaon region), has been called as Uttarakhand or Devbhumi. The land of state is parted naturally by Nanda Devi Mountains, in two regions, Kumaon and Garhwal. Dehradun, the capital and the largest city . Nainital as judicial capital where the high court of Uttarakhand is located.

There are 13 districts in Uttarakhand which are grouped into Garhwal and Kumaon division.
